Why Plant-Based Chews?

Why Plant-Based Chews?

Because meat isn’t always the answer.

Most chews on the shelf lean heavily on meat. But meat chews can come with baggage: calories, fat, smells, stains, and mystery bits left behind on your carpet. Dubya and Fang are built differently — 100% plant-based, sugar-free, and made to give dogs the chewing and dental action they love without the mess.

The Trouble with Meat-Based Chews

  • Calorie bombs. Meat chews can be loaded with fat. For dogs that don’t need the extra, it can mean creeping weight gain. Obesity is already one of the biggest health risks in dogs.
  • Soft, sticky, sugary. Some meat-based chews can be more rubber than scraper. And when they’re coated in flavourings or hidden sugars, they can feed bacteria instead of fighting it.
  • Digestive drama. Meat proteins and by-products can be tough on sensitive stomachs. For dogs with allergies or intolerances, a “treat” can end in an upset gut.
  • Carpet casualties. Bits of sinew, bone, or tendon can splinter or shed, leaving stains and smells behind. Once you’ve scrubbed dried chew residue out of a rug, you know the pain.
  • That smell. Some meat chews carry a lingering odour. Fine for the dog. Less fine for the humans on the sofa next to them.

Why Plant-Based Wins

  • We’re not saying dogs shouldn’t eat meat. But they don’t need meat in their chews. The point of a chew is to clean teeth, keep them busy, and give them satisfaction. Plants do that brilliantly - without the fat, smell, or mess.
  • Functional fibres. Ingredients like sweet potato and pea flour add chew texture. As dogs work on Dubya and Fang, fibres help polish and rub teeth surfaces.
  • Sugar-free and natural ingredients. No added sugars. Better for teeth. Better for breath.
  • Calorie smart. Dubya (~75 kcal) is the longer chew; Fang (~40 kcal) is the leaner dental session. Both are lighter than many meat chews of similar size.
  • Gentle on stomachs. Plant-based recipes can be easier to digest and safer for dogs with protein sensitivities.
  • Cleaner all round. No animal residue. No grease marks. No stink left behind on carpets or furniture.
  • Planet-friendly. Plant-based choices tend to come with a lower environmental pawprint.
